I do not like to use the 'l' word in relation to an opponent but in this case, I will make an exception. The Aberconwy Labour party have for some reason known only to themselves distributed a leaflet that makes grossly incorrect statements about both the Plaid and Lib Dem candidates in the constituency. The official Labour leaflet states about the Plaid candidate that: -
FIB no. 1
"When the Plaid Cymru candidate became Director of the NT in Wales, he moved the HQ from Llandudno to Cardiff."
and
FIB no. 2
"As soon as he left, the Trust moved their HQ back to Llandudno."
The facts are (which have been confirmed by the National Trust) that: -
MARCH 1 2003 Iwan Huws was appointed as the new Director of the National Trust in Wales . He was initially recruited to work in Cardiff but the Welsh HQ has always been in Llandudno and remains so ( Trinity Square). In 2006 Iwan Huws moved back to North Wales and was based in the Llandudno office. The CARDIFF OFFICE was ALWAYS A SATELLITE OFFICE FOR THE DIRECTOR.The Cardiff office no longer exists and the future of the LLANDUDNO office is secure. So in fact , the trend was from Cardiff to Llandudno and not vice versa as claimed by Labour!
Why would an experienced party like Labour allow such untruths be printed in an election leaflet, particularly with their recent experiences with such mistakes? This leaflet will hurt our candidates chances if believed and distributed widely and Plaid will have no hesitation in taking legal action against Labour for this, if the need arises. What a stupid and pointless action for Labour to take and not their first of this campaign.
A CONSEQUENCE OF CHANGE...

If by 'their recent experiences with such mistakes' you mean the election campaign in Oldham last year, then you should remember that they won the resulting by-election with an increased majority.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the lesson they learned is they can get away with these things.
Tpically Labour scaremongering and creating an atmosphere of fear so that they can foster some kind of support for their non existent policies and ideas, Labour never change, what a tribal bunch of no good dooer's.
ReplyDeleteWelsh Agenda,
ReplyDeleteBut look at the context. They walked it in Oldham because of the Lib Dem collapse and because it was a straight anti-Tory vote. That is working in some places in Wales, but not everywhere.
