Labour Will Never Have a Better Chance

They have a new leader in Wales and London, they have a right wing London Tory Government forcing huge public sector cuts on us, even the Libs have sided with the Tories in London and in fairness, their leadership worked hard to deliver a referendum 'yes' vote. They have also 'parked their tanks on Plaid's lawn' so to speak, at least until Friday anyway.

I cannot conceive a situation where Labour will have a better opportunity to get an overall majority. If they do not get one this time, then will they ever get one? This may explain to an extent why they have lost the plot slightly in the last week in places like Caerphilly and Aberconwy as their bosses in London have no doubt resourced them accordingly and expect results. We shall see.

In Aberconwy, there is no question of "bosses in London" asking for or expecting anything. The Labour campaign is locally managed by members and supporters of the Welsh Labour Party, using leaflets written and printed locally. Dozens and dozens of ordinary people (many of them bilingual, as I am) have been out knocking on doors and delivering leaflets, so that we get a good candidate, committed to Wales and the constituency, elected to the Assembly. To me it has been heartening to see how many people have become involved.

If there was an error on one piece of electoral material, and I'm not sure there has been, then its an error by Welsh people, and certainly not inspired by any phantom "bosses".

We really can't keep blaming London for everything. We have had our Assembly since 1999 and need to take responsibility for our own achievements and failures.

  2. It was not an error on the leaflet but an outright lie, relating to 2 parties at the same time.
I absolutely agree that we cannot keep blaming London for everything and would have been delighted to have a Welsh campaign. Unfortunately, Labour had no intention of running one and instead concentrated very successfully on the 'evil Tories' narrative. In the end though, the Tories won anyway in Aberconwy.
Your candidate was very much respected before the final weeks, which is why the very negative local campaigning was so disappointing. There was no need for it.
