If Not Wembley, Then Llangyfelach

Today, an estimated 1 in 5 of the Swansea population will be making their way to Wembley. The other four fifths will I suspect (including me) be finding a TV screen or listening to the Radio, to see if the Super Swans can do a 'Toshack' and get us back up to the top division.

So why Llangyfelach as an alternative? Well, in a few minutes from this blog being published, Europe's largest cultural youth festival opens there, the Urdd Eisteddfod. We will be there with the sproggs for most of the week hunting down Rapsgaliwn, Sam Tan, Sali Mali, Twm Tisian and many others. It is also an opportunity to polish up on my appalling Welsh, as my 5 year old is now correcting my pronunciation when I read books to them at night. It's the humiliation that will eventually force me to be fluent.

So, you can be forgiven for not being on the Maes today, but why not pop up in the week and above all, remember that you do not have to speak Welsh or be Welsh to be there, but I challenge you not to want to learn some when you leave. The Urdd Eisteddfod is a special place and as friendly as it gets, when it comes to festivals.

  1. It's very strange for me to see all this going on where my father worked for 30 years as a crane driver at BSC Velindre!
